Data Profiling Quick-Start Solution

The introduction of the CA ERwin® Data Profiler (Data Profiler) software brings data profiling into mainstream data modeling environments. Data profiling adds tremendous value to any data modeling project when leveraged properly. The intention of this quick-start solution is to provide immediate return on investment for the acquisition and utilization of the Data Profiler software from CA, Inc. (CA).

The quick-start solution provides expert data profiling services to ensure that you realize immediate value from the Data Profiler software. This solution is ideal for master data management, data warehousing, application development, and other business intelligence efforts that include sourcing data from disparate data sources, as data profiling provides the information necessary to harmonize and consolidate the data into a single target. Data quality and other data governance projects are also ideal projects for this solution as profiling provides the intimate knowledge of the data content necessary to identify data anomalies and data quality issues.

This quick-start solution provides both the software and services to implement data profiling at a project level. The following bullets identify the components of the quick-start solution:

  • Two or more CA ERwin® Data Profiler licenses with one year of maintenance. Three years of maintenance are also available for the software.
  • Forty hours of expert data profiling and software integration services from Data Innovations, Inc.:
    • Eight hours for product installation, configuration, and deployment. This includes working with the administrator to install the software, create the staging database, and define connections to the data sources.
    • Sixteen hours for project assessment and methodology development. The project will be reviewed in detail to identify where and when to utilize data profiling. A custom methodology is then developed identifying how to leverage the data profiling software for the project.
    • Sixteen hours for product and methodology training. The data modelers are trained through mentoring to utilize the software and the methodology for the project.
  • Deliverables:
    • Software installed. There are both server and client components that are installed, configured, and deployed.
    • Staging database and other database objects. A staging database is created as well as ODBC connections to the data sources.
    • A methodology that identifies a step-by-step process for utilizing the profiling software specific to the project.
    • Two or three resources trained to utilize the software and execute the project's methodology.
    • The software administrator is trained to install, configure, and deploy the software.
